“Now that North Korea is officially joining the war against Ukraine, we will detail our request. Ukraine will soon send a representative in South Korea. We will discuss weapons supplies,” Zelenskyy said.
He clarified that it is unclear how Seoul will respond. Ukraine urgently requires additional artillery and air systems.
In response to the North Korean troops joining in the war with Russia, Ukraine and South Korea agreed on 30 October to intensify their contacts at all levels.
The two countries committed to develop a strategy and a list of countermeasures in order to deal with the escalation. They also agreed to include their shared partners as part of their collaboration.
As part of the agreement, Ukraine will exchange delegations with South Korea to coordinate their response against North Korea’s troop deployment to Russia.
Satellite imagery suggests that a North Korean port, which had been dormant for some time, is now a hive of activity near the border. This could indicate a resurgence in trade routes for arms. Since October, the Najin port has seen consistent ship traffic.
