The Ukrainian Prosecutor’s General’s Office charged Russian soldier Mykola Senenko on October 31 with raping an unidentified woman in Kherson Oblast, Ukraine in 2022.
The Kyiv independent in June identified two Russians who were involved in raping two women during the occupation in Kyiv and Kherson Oblasts in March 2020, one of whom is Senenko.
The findings were used as the basis of the Kyiv Independent documentary on Russian sexual violence in occupied areas of Ukraine, He Came Back. It is available in English and Ukrainian.
Synenko, who had been drafted from Donetsk Oblast’s occupied areas, was deployed in early 2022 with the Russian 109th Motorized Rifle Regiment to the occupied portions of Kherson Oblast.
The Kyiv Independent interviewed locals and officials on site to confirm that Senenko had raped a female in Krasnivka (Kherson Oblast). The findings were sent to the prosecutor’s office.

Kyslytsya, citing testimony from those released from Russian captivity said that more than 50 percent of the detainees had suffered torture, rape or other forms sexual violence.
He also mentioned the crimes documented by the Prosecutor-General, among whose victims were 188 women, 10 men, and 15 children.
Kyslytsya stated that the recorded figures are likely to be an undercount.
“Survivors can’t wait until the end of the war,” he said. “They need justice and support now. Kyslytsya stated that Ukraine has launched a pilot project to provide financial reparations for victims of sexual assault.
The Global Survivors Fund, a group that advocates for victims of sexual assault in conflict situations, supports the program.
