**Ukraine Targets Russia‘s Engels Airbase**
The Ukrainian military has carried out a series of attacks on Russia’s Engels airbase. The 14th Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Regiment, part of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, said the operation was aimed at reducing Russia’s strategic aviation capabilities.
The targets included aviation fuel tanks at the Kristal oil plant, which supplies Russian long-range bomber aircraft. The regiment also claimed to have struck ammunition warehouses at the airbase, storing cruise missiles and glide bombs.
**Previous Attacks on Engels**
This is not the first time Ukraine has targeted Engels. Earlier in January, a drone attack damaged an industrial facility in the city of Engels. A previous attack on Jan. 8 also hit the Kristal plant.
The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the claims made by the 14th Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Regiment.
**Engels Airbase**
Located over 750 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, Engels airbase is home to three types of Russian strategic bombers: the Tupolev Tu-95, the Tupolev Tu-22, and the Tupolev Tu-160. These aircraft are regularly used to launch missiles at Ukrainian cities.
**Ukraine’s Drone Forces**
The Unmanned Systems Forces were established to improve Ukraine’s work with drones and form special drone-specific units. The forces have developed various aerial, naval, and ground drones for reconnaissance, combat, and other tasks during the conflict with Russia.
