**Russian Forces in Kharkiv Sector Suffer Heavy Losses**
Ukrainian forces have gained the upper hand over Russian troops in the Kharkiv sector of the front line. According to Volodymyr Degtyaryov, spokesperson for Ukraine’s “Khartia” brigade, Russian forces have suffered more irrecoverable losses than wounded over the past month.
**Russian Forces’ Losses on the Rise**
Degtyaryov stated that Russian forces rarely use vehicles due to a “dead zone” established by Ukrainian troops. This zone extends 10 kilometers into Russian-occupied areas, making it difficult for Russian forces to move around. As a result, Russian forces have more concentrations of personnel, leading to higher numbers of dead than wounded.
**Kharkiv Oblast Remains a Flashpoint**
The region remains a major flashpoint in the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. Moscow launched an offensive in Kharkiv Oblast on May 10, 2024, but Ukrainian defenders halted their push at the first line of defense.
**Russian Forces Still Control Some Villages**
Despite their losses, Russian troops still control several villages on two axes in Kharkiv Oblast – one near Lyptsi and the other near the embattled town of Vovchansk. The situation on the ground remains fluid, with both sides continuing to clash.
