**Ukraine Works to Prevent Encirclement in Donetsk Oblast**
The Ukrainian military is focusing on keeping communication lines and supply routes open, while also trying to prevent their units from being surrounded by enemy forces. This effort is taking place in a contested area near the village of Makarivka.
Makarivka is close to Velyka Novosilka, which is located southwest of Kurakhove in Donetsk oblast. The regional capital is about 75 kilometers away. For months, Russia has been trying to capture the remaining parts of Donetsk Oblast, with a focus on key areas like Pokrovsk and Kurakhove.
The Ukrainian military’s Southern Defense Forces are conducting stabilization measures to try and restore their positions while also maintaining an active defense against the enemy. According to Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces, this effort is aimed at preventing encirclement near Makarivka.
