**Ukraine Criticizes Slovak PM’s Pro-Russian Energy Policy**
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has accused Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico of posing a threat to Europe through his ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The criticism came after Fico met with Putin in Moscow on December 22 to discuss gas supplies.
**Energy Dependence and Blackmail**
Ukraine warned that Russia has long used energy as a political tool, leading to corruption, dependence, and blackmail against sovereign nations. The Foreign Ministry accused Fico’s energy policy of weakening Europe and undermining efforts to diversify energy supplies.
**Reference to World War II**
The Ukrainian statement also referenced the events leading up to World War II, saying that Slovakia should remember the lessons of appeasement. President Volodymyr Zelensky echoed these concerns on social media, accusing Fico of helping Moscow fund its war against Ukraine and undermining Europe’s energy independence.
**European Union Concerns**
The criticism from Ukraine has raised concerns among European partners. The Czech government has already shifted away from Russian energy, with the Foreign Minister saying that “we don’t have to grovel before a mass murderer” in reference to Fico’s visit to Moscow.
