**Ukraine Defends Against Russian Assault**
A major attack by Russia on the Kharkiv front in Ukraine has been repelled, according to Ukrainian forces. The assault involved 45 drone strikes.
The situation remains difficult but under control, said Yevhen Romanov, a spokesperson for the Kharkiv Operational Tactical Group. Despite this, Russia continues to try and advance in the area around Kucheryvka. Localized attacks are also happening near Lyman and Lozova.
**Civilian Casualties and Infrastructure Damage**
Russian assaults have caused civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. Recently, shelling in Kupiansk killed two civilians. Oleh Syniehubov, regional governor, reported this on December 17.
