Zelenskyy calls on the international community to condemn Pyongyang’s direct involvement in this conflict, as over 11,000 North Korean troops prepare for deployment.
According to Ukrinform, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for a strong and decisive response from its partners in light of the reported deployment by North Korea of military personnel as support to Russia in the ongoing conflict.
Kyrylo Budanov is the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry. He revealed this week that 11,000 North Korean soldiers were undergoing training in Russia for the war effort. Their deployment is expected to be by 1 November.
Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to those countries who have condemned the growing alliance between Russia, North Korea and Pyongyang, especially the transfer of weapons by Pyongyang as well as the compensation Moscow might offer in return.
He warned that North Korea’s involvement in the war could worsen instabilities and threats, particularly if the country gains more experience in modern warfare.
“We have evidence that North Korea does not only send workers to Russia, but also soldiers. We expect a fair and strong response from our partners. Zelenskyy said that it is essentially a new nation joining the war against Ukraine.
He said that satellite imagery and videos released from Russian sources provide evidence of this cooperation.
“We must act. We cannot let this evil grow unchecked. If the world remains silent, and we continue to face North Korean soldiers in the battlefield at the same rate that we defend against “Shaheds,” it will only prolong war and benefit nobody,” Zelenskyy stressed.
He concluded that the war must be ended quickly and fairly.
