Ukraine’s Leaders Are Confident About Their Military Operations
As the US presidential transition approaches, Ukraine is confident that it can keep fighting until at least July 2025. Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko said this in an interview with a Spanish newspaper.
According to Marchenko, Ukraine has enough money and weapons to defend itself against Russian aggression for the first half of next year. However, he expressed concerns about receiving continued support from Western countries after that. This is because some donor countries might face financial constraints or have new leaders who don’t prioritize Ukraine’s defense efforts.
Ukraine is currently getting the military aid it needs from the US and plans to spend a lot on ammunition and equipment in 2025. Marchenko said this will keep Ukraine “well-armed” against Russian aggression.
The minister also talked about the potential challenges ahead. He said that since there might be changes in the US administration, Ukraine must use its time wisely and be prepared to negotiate with the new leaders.
It’s worth noting that while the current Biden administration has asked for $24 billion in aid for Ukraine, some Republican lawmakers have refused to vote on this assistance. Former President Trump has also hinted that he might reduce support for Ukraine compared to his predecessor.
