Ukraine’s Navy Gets New Drones

The Ukrainian Navy has received new unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) that can carry drones. These USVs are called “ carriers.” They were given to the Ukrainian Navy by an organization called Militarnyi.

A video was shared on 7, showing how these USVs work. In the video, you can see them being used to ships and coastal infrastructure in the . This was a public demonstration of their use. The Ukrainian Navy had used similar drones earlier to attack gas platforms that were captured by Russia.

The new drones are equipped with something called an “airburst system.” This makes them good for targeting important things like electronic , radars, and other soft targets.

This is not the first time Ukraine has modified its maritime strike drones. Earlier reports said that their USVs had been fitted with underwater mines and surface-to-air missiles. Now, with the introduction of drone carriers, the Ukrainian Navy can threaten not just Russian ships but also coastal targets like radars, systems, and airfields in Crimea.

The new drones can also counter Russian naval aviation, which often uses helicopters to intercept Ukrainian strike drones. They can target vital systems on surface warships, like radars, , and machine gun mounts used to destroy maritime drones.

A message from the Ukrainian forces said: “The tanks are performing excellently on the battlefield and we certainly have no intention of hiding from the enemy what usually makes them hide.”
