**Ukraine Launches Fresh Offensive in Russia’s Kursk Region**
The Russian defence ministry has announced that Ukraine has launched a fresh offensive in the country’s Kursk region. According to officials, efforts are being made to destroy the Ukrainian attack groups.
This is not the first time Ukraine has attacked the Kursk region. In August last year, they seized a chunk of territory after launching an incursion into Russia. However, Russian forces have since regained some ground in the area, pushing the Ukrainians back.
**Details of the Attack**
According to a statement posted on Telegram by Russia’s defence ministry, the Ukrainian counter-attack was launched from their base at Sudzha towards the villages of Berdin and Bolshoye Soldatskoye. The attack involved two tanks, one counter-obstacle vehicle, and 12 armoured fighting vehicles.
**Ukrainian Officials React**
The head of Ukraine’s presidential office, Andriy Yermak, said there was “good news from Kursk Region” and that Russia was “getting what it deserves”. Ukraine’s top counter-disinformation official, Andriy Kovalenko, also made a statement on Telegram, saying the Russians in Kursk are experiencing great anxiety because they were attacked from several directions.
**Russian Blogger Comments**
However, some Russian military bloggers have suggested that the operation may not be as significant as it seems. Yury Podolyaka said the operation may have been diversionary, while Alexander Kots did not rule out that the main attack could be launched somewhere else.
**Manpower Shortages and Drone Attack**
Kyiv‘s forces are reportedly suffering from manpower shortages and have been losing ground in the east of Ukraine in recent months. Additionally, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched another drone attack on Ukraine overnight, but none of the drones hit their target.
