**Ukraine Launches Massive Attack on Russia**
The Ukrainian military has launched a large-scale attack on several targets deep inside Russia. The attack, which took place overnight, hit ammunition depots and chemical plants across several regions.
According to the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces, the targets were hundreds of kilometers from the border. Sources in Ukraine’s SBU intelligence agency called the attack a “painful blow” to Russia’s ability to wage war.
**Russia Responds**
Russia has vowed to respond to the attack. The country’s air defenses shot down US-supplied Atacms missiles and UK-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles. At least nine airports in central and western Russia temporarily halted traffic, while schools in the southwestern Saratov region closed.
**Targets Hit**
The Ukrainian military targeted several regions, including Bryansk, where explosions were reported at a refinery, ammunition depots, and a chemical plant that produces gunpowder and explosives. The General Staff claimed to have hit targets up to 1,100km from the border.
In the western region of Saratov, officials reported a “massive” drone attack on two industrial plants in the cities of Engels and Saratov. Students were taught online after local schools were closed.
**Russia Also Launches Attack**
Ukraine said Russia launched dozens of drones across Ukraine overnight, with multiple air raid alerts in and around Kyiv. According to Ukraine’s tally, all but one were shot down or lost.
**Troop Transfer**
As a response to the attack, Ukraine is planning to transfer more than 5,000 troops from air to ground forces, according to a source quoted by Ukrainska Pravda newspaper.
**Russia and US Relations**
The US administration has been pushing Ukraine to lower its conscription age and send more soldiers to the frontlines. This comes as President-elect Donald Trump prepares to meet Vladimir Putin and prioritize ending the war in Ukraine.
