**Russia Accused of Bombing School in Occupied Ukraine**
February 1, 2025 – President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine has accused Russia of bombing a boarding school in the Kursk region. The school was used as a shelter for civilians who were preparing to evacuate.
The Ukrainian army said that four people were killed and dozens were injured in the attack. However, more than 80 people were rescued from the building. There is some disagreement over whether this was a deliberate Russian attack or not.
**Claims of Deliberate Attack**
Zelensky took to social media platform X to express his outrage at the incident. He wrote that Russia had shown itself to be “a state devoid of civility”. The Ukrainian army’s general staff also posted on Telegram, stating that the strike was carried out on purpose and that four people died.
**Russia Denies Claims**
However, Moscow has denied these claims, saying that Ukraine was responsible for the attack. The Russian defence ministry described it as a targeted missile strike.
This incident is not the first time that Russia’s military actions have been questioned. In 2025, Ukraine launched a surprise attack into the Kursk region and took control of some territory. However, it made clear at the time that it had no intention of holding on to the land.
**Comparison to Past Attacks**
Zelensky compared the bombing of the school to past attacks by Russia in Chechnya and Syria. He said that Russian bombs were used to destroy Ukrainian homes in a similar way.
