Ukraine retakes Vovchansk aggregate plant, confirms military intelligence

According to a report from Ukraine’ military intelligence (HUR), have successfully recaptured an aggregate plant in the town of Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast Sept. 24. The HUR Chief Kyrylo Budanov was briefed on the operation earlier in the day, which was carried out by HUR special forces.

The agency stated that the was extremely difficult and involved constant contact battles with the enemy in densely built-up conditions. Ukrainian special forces even engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy in some cases. After clearing all buildings of Russian forces, Ukraine’s Armed Forces took control of the territory of the aggregate plant.

During the operation, Ukrainian troops also reportedly took as captives. The Vovchansk plant had been under Russian control for several months, with Moscow using their most professional units to defend it, according to HUR.

The at the plant were heavily armed and used kamikaze attack drones, guided aerial bombs, and continued shelling with TOS- “Solntsepek” multiple rocket launchers to defend the facility. Vovchansk, located 60 kilometers northeast of Kharkiv, has been a site of intense battles since Russia launched a new offensive in the area in May.

Although the initially gained ground, it quickly stalled, with reports of heavy losses among Russian troops. While the intensity of fighting has decreased compared to other in Ukraine’s east, such as Pokrovsk, Vuhledar, and Toretsk, the situation in Vovchansk remains volatile.
