Ukraine Imposes Sanctions on Pro-Russian Georgian Officials
The government of Ukraine has imposed sanctions on 19 individuals who are accused of helping Russia’s influence in Georgia. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to Zelenskyy, these individuals are “selling Georgia’s interests” and working against the country‘s independence. The list includes billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili and his associates, who were previously the Prime Minister of Georgia.
The sanctions come in response to a recent violent crackdown on anti-government protests in Georgia. These protests occurred after the government decided to stop its integration with the European Union. Zelenskyy said that Ukraine’s action is aimed at stopping pro-Russian forces in Georgia and that other countries should also take similar steps against them.
Zelenskyy warned that if the international community does not respond quickly and firmly, many countries will suffer and lose their freedom for decades to come.
