**Ukraine‘s Air Force Hits Back**
On January 4, Ukraine’s air forces successfully stopped an attack by Russia. The Russian army launched a total of 81 drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to try and destroy Ukrainian cities.
**Most Drones Were Stopped**
The Ukrainian air defenses intercepted and destroyed 34 Shahed-type attack drones. These drones are designed to fly long distances, up to 2,500 kilometers, and were built in Iran. They can cause a lot of damage when they hit their targets.
**Many More Failed**
In addition to the 34 drones that were shot down, another 47 decoy drones were stopped by electronic countermeasures. These decoy drones did not cause any harm.
**Drones Hit Many Areas**
The attack was launched from several locations in Russia, including Bryansk and Kursk. The Ukrainian air forces successfully stopped the drones across ten different regions.
**Some Damage Was Done**
Unfortunately, some of the downed drones caused damage to private homes in Chernihiv and Sumy oblasts. The windows were broken, but no one was hurt. The Russian army also targeted a fire station in Nikopol with heavy artillery and missiles, but the firefighters were not injured.
