**Ukraine Signs Contract with Rheinmetall for Artillery Shells**
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has signed a new contract with the German defense company Rheinmetall. The deal is to supply 155mm artillery shells, which will be delivered in the first half of 2025.
This agreement is important because it helps Ukraine’s defense capabilities. The 155mm shells are compatible with many NATO-standard artillery systems used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Director of the Defense Procurement Agency said that this contract is a good example of how to get reliable supplies from leading global arms manufacturers. She thanked Rheinmetall for their contribution to supporting the Ukrainian military.
**Details of the Contract**
The exact value and number of shells in the contract are not publicly known. However, it is part of a bigger cooperation between Ukraine and Rheinmetall.
Recently, Ukraine secured a separate deal with Rheinmetall for propellant charges worth around 9 million euros. The delivery is expected in January 2025, and tens of thousands of various types of propellant modules are included in this contract.
**Long-term Partnership**
The partnership between Ukraine and Rheinmetall goes beyond just supplying ammunition. Rheinmetall has also agreed to set up an ammunition production facility in Ukraine, which will start operating in the second half of 2026.
Additionally, Rheinmetall has announced plans to build four factories in Ukraine, including a factory that will produce Fuchs armored vehicles. The construction of this factory is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
This represents significant progress for Ukraine in securing reliable sources of military supplies through direct partnerships with major international defense manufacturers.
