According to Russian media, a high-ranking GRU officer, the deputy commandant of the Special Operations Forces Training Center was shot at close distance in Solnechnogorsk-2.
Colonel Nikita Klenkov was killed by a gunshot near Moscow, just a week following his return from the war in Ukraine. According to reports, he was the deputy commander of an army unit that was linked to GRU’s Special Forces Training Center.
Ukrainian intelligence and Security Service (SBU), have claimed responsibility for the assassination of high-profile Russian officers, and Ukrainian collaborators in Russia. Notable targets included ex-Ukrainian parliamentarian Ilia Kyva, and Russian military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky. These operations are designed to undermine Russian military leadership, and discourage collaboration with Moscow.

The Russian Investigative Committee reported that the assailant pulled up alongside Klenkov’s car and fired several shots through the windows, causing Klenkov crash into a fence. He died on the spot. The shooter fled and a police hunt was launched.
No one has claimed responsibility and Ukrainian intelligence has not spoken out on the issue.
According to Vazhnye Istorii, Klenkov had been registered at the GRU Special Forces Training Center in Solnechnogorsk-2. This was about 20 minutes away from the murder scene. He was ordering food for GRU headquarters, and visiting a clinic nearby.
It was also reported that he had a Hyundai Palisade. Evidence from the Investigative Committee indicates he died in a vehicle with the same model.
