The 46th Airmobile Brigade of Ukraine announced on October 20 that it had defeated a Russian attack against the Kurakhove Sector in Donetsk Oblast. It released footage of the engagement.
Russia has intensified its attacks on the eastern front in Donetsk Oblast, attempting to breach the Ukrainian defenses and reach the towns of Pokrovsk or Kurakhove.
Ukraine’s General Staff stated in its latest update of October 21 that Ukrainian troops had fended off 59 assaults in the Kurakhove Sector in the past day.
The 46th brigade reported that Russian forces attempted to break through Ukraine’s defense lines to capture the village Maksymilianivka in order to create conditions to further advance towards Kurakhove.
Seven tanks and 11 infantry combat vehicles were reported to have been destroyed by Ukrainian forces in the failed attack.
The brigade reported that “two more damaged tanks were able to roll back.” The fate of 28 fleeing Russians is unknown, according to the unit.
The Kyiv independent could not confirm these reports.
The Ukrainian National Guard had earlier in the day claimed that Russian forces were attempting to storm Selydove in Donetsk Oblast using large numbers infantry. Selydove, located about 25 kilometers (15 miles), is situated between Kurakhove and Selydove.
