**Ukraine’s Top Army Psychiatrist Detained**
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has arrested the country‘s army chief psychiatrist. He is accused of making a lot of money illegally during Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
He was in charge of deciding who could join the military. The SBU says he made over $1 million, but did not report it. Instead, he used fake names to buy apartments, land, and luxury cars.
The man was found with a lot of cash – $152,000 and €34,000 – during an investigation at his home. He now faces 10 years in jail for these alleged crimes.
**Previous Corruption Cases**
This is not the first time Ukraine’s top officials have been accused of corruption. In May, a Ukrainian MP was charged with taking £220,000 from someone without permission.
In 2023, over 30 people who were responsible for recruiting soldiers were fired after being accused of taking bribes and helping people avoid military service.
The Ukrainian parliament has also voted to stop using special medical commissions that allowed officials to take bribes to let people avoid the army.
