**Russian Strike Targets Nursing Home in Captured Ukrainian Town**
On February 1, a Russian strike hit a nursing home in the town of Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. The building served as a shelter for local residents, mostly elderly people.
The attack trapped nearly 95 people under the rubble. Ukraine’s military reported that dozens of residents were preparing to evacuate when the strike occurred. Russia knew that the building housed civilians, including women and children.
Emergency crews have been sent to the scene, but officials have not yet confirmed any casualties.
**Previous Attack on Same Nursing Home**
This is not the first time a nursing home in Sudzha has been targeted by Russian forces. On January 11, Russian forces carried out a double airstrike on the same building, leaving one woman with severe injuries. She later died.
**Background on Kursk Oblast Conflict**
Ukrainian forces launched a large-scale operation in Kursk Oblast in August, capturing around 1,300 square kilometers of Russian soil. However, Russia has since deployed reinforcements and retook part of the lost territory.
