Ukraine’s General Staff has reported that Russian forces used chemical weapons 323 times on the battlefield in October.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in Ukraine, radiation, chemical and biological intelligence units have recorded the use of hazardous chemicals at the battlefield. Since February 2022, there have been 4,613 cases.
General Staff report states that the Russian army uses munitions like K-51 and RG-VO which are loaded with hazardous chemical substances and are used to counter-riot operations and are prohibited as war weapons.
The Ukrainian military also recorded “significant” quantities of ammunition containing hazardous chemicals of an “unspecified kind.”
The General Staff stated that Russia’s use of chemicals munitions “violates flagrantly the rules of war, ignores the norms and commitments under the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling, and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction.”
A Kyiv Independent investigation in August revealed that Russia’s use gas attacks was increasing. The Kyiv Independent interviewed Ukrainian soldiers and officers who acknowledged that this tactic was effective. It allowed Moscow to capture positions without destroying them.
Ukrainian soldiers reported that they were subjected to up to six gas attacks per day, with two to three attacks occurring within an hour.
On Oct. 8, the U.K. imposed sanctions against Russian units that were involved in the use chemical weapons on the battlefield of Ukraine.
The U.S. State Department confirmed earlier this year that Russian forces used the chemical agent, chloropicrin, in Ukraine. The announcement was made as part of a statement about new U.S. sanction against more than 280 people and entities.
Chloropicrin can be used as an herbalicide. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, exposure to its vapors may cause severe irritation of the skin, eyes and internal organs if inhaled.
“Nobody is safe in Ukraine until Russia ends its aggression,” Estonian Foreign Affairs Minister Margus Tsahkna stated in a social media post on Nov. 8th.

Five times, guided aerial bombs were used by Russia to strike Zaporizhzhia. The attack damaged houses, an apartment building and a cancer hospital.
The missiles that Ukraine will be testing are designed to counter drones and can shoot targets from an altitude up to 2 km.

Since Ukraine launched its cross-border offensive at the beginning of August, Kursk Oblast has been racked by heavy fighting.
This includes 1,580 casualties that Russian forces have suffered in the last day.
The attack caused damage to multiple residential buildings as well as a local primary school. According to preliminary information, one person died and nine others were injured.
Local authorities reported that at least 25 people were injured, and that there may be more trapped under the rubble. Search and rescue operations continue at the building.
Lindner said that Scholz had fired the former Finance Minister Christian Lindner because he suggested sending Ukraine Taurus rockets instead of financial assistance, Lindner said.
