**North Korean Troops Accused of Friendly Fire in Ukraine**
North Korean soldiers fighting alongside Russian forces in Kursk Oblast, Ukraine, have been accused of killing eight members of a Russian unit in a “friendly fire” attack.
According to Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR), the incident occurred on December 14. HUR claims that North Korean troops opened fire on members of the Chechen Akhmat unit, resulting in eight Russian deaths.
**Language Barrier Cited as Cause**
The agency attributed the attack to language barriers between Russian and North Korean troops, which have been a persistent problem on the battlefield. This is not the first time that Ukraine’s military has reported such incidents involving North Korean personnel.
**Estimated 200 Servicemembers Killed**
As of December 14, HUR estimated that around 200 servicemembers fighting with Russian and North Korean units had been killed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously announced that North Korean personnel were incurring “noticeable losses,” but did not provide a specific figure.
**Russian Protocols Implemented**
In response to the incidents, Russia has implemented special protocols for areas where North Korean personnel are located. Russian soldiers must undergo inspections before entering these areas, and their phones and electronic devices are confiscated.
