**Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil Facility with Drones**
On February 20, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) used drones to attack a substation powering an oil pumping station in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai. The strike was successful and disrupted the operations of the Novovelychkovskaya oil pumping station.
The attacked facility is one of the key locations for transporting oil in the Kuban region, supplying two major refineries. Russian authorities are currently assessing the damage.
**Reports Conflict**
Local Russian media outlets reported explosions in the Krasnodar Krai region on February 20, but claimed that Russian air defense systems had repelled the drone attack and there was no fire. However, a security source told the Kyiv Independent that the SBU’s operation was successful and caused significant damage.
**Ukraine’s Strategy**
This is the eighth successful SBU special operation targeting Russia’s oil refining and pumping facilities since the beginning of the year. Ukraine’s military has been using drones to launch deep strikes against Russian military and industrial targets, including fossil fuel infrastructure.
The goal of these operations is to undermine funding for the Kremlin’s war chest by disrupting Russia’s ability to transport and refine oil. Ukraine has also targeted other important targets, such as goggles used by Russian soldiers in their operations.
