**Ukrainian Forces Resist North Korean Assault**
Soldiers from the 8th Regiment of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces fought off a North Korean attack in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. They held their ground for eight hours before retreating, killing 21 and wounding 40 enemy soldiers.
The Ukrainian troops were vastly outnumbered by the North Korean forces. The North Koreans had deployed around 12,000 soldiers in the region. Despite being outgunned, the Ukrainians used small arms, grenade launchers, and snipers to hold off the attack.

A video shared by the Special Operations Forces shows the brutal combat between the two sides. The footage is graphic and includes close-range fighting. In the end, the Ukrainians were left with only a third of their ammunition left. They used what they had to destroy the North Korean forces before retreating.
**Ukraine’s Losses**
North Korea has suffered significant losses in Kursk Oblast. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Pyongyang government has seen 4,000 casualties since August 2024 when Ukraine launched a surprise cross-border incursion into Russian territory.
