North Korean troops participating in the Russo–Ukrainian War will be North Korea’s very first direct military intervention into a European conflict. This may lead to a rethinking of other countries’ military support policies, including South Korea.
Kyrylo Budanov is the head of Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate. He has stated that approximately 11,000 North Korean soldiers are currently being trained in eastern Russia.
The “strategic partnership” that the two countries signed in the beginning of this year has led to increased military cooperation. If confirmed, North Korean troops taking part in the Russo-Ukraine War would be North Korea’s very first direct military involvement in a European conflict. This could have a profound impact on international relations and prompt other countries to reconsider their military support policies, including South Korea.
According to the Ukrainian intelligence director, they will be prepared to participate in combat against Ukraine as soon as 1 November.
