Christmas Market Attack in Germany Leaves Many Injured and Dead
A car crashed into a crowd at a Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg on December 20. This led to 11 people being killed and over 200 others being injured.
One of the victims is a Ukrainian woman who was born in 1972. She has been hospitalized after the incident.
The police are still investigating what caused the car crash. They have not yet determined if it was a terrorist attack, but they are considering this possibility.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to Germany. He said that violence should never prevail and that doctors are working to save the lives of those who were severely injured.
Zelenskyy also expressed support for the people of Magdeburg during this difficult time. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the scene and paid tribute to the victims.
The suspect, a doctor from Saudi Arabia who has lived in Germany since 2006, was detained by police. They have not yet identified any Islamist links to the man.
An investigation is still ongoing into the motive behind the crime.
