According to a report from Militarnyi, Ukrainian forces have successfully targeted a Russian S-400 air defense system’s radar in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast using a kamikaze drone. This attack is a significant achievement for Ukraine, as Russian air defense assets are a top priority target. By destroying the radar, Ukrainian forces can now operate their drones, missiles, and aircraft closer to the frontline.
The Come Back Alive Foundation, which supports the Ukrainian military, released a video showing the attack on the Russian radar. The video shows operators from the Flight Club 92nd unit of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade tracking down a 96L6 radar that was accompanying the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system. The radar was located near a small tree line between fields, and the exact date of the operation was not specified.
After determining the coordinates of the enemy radar’s location, a Ukrainian kamikaze drone was deployed to destroy it. The fixed-wing drone strike was successful in disabling the radar station, effectively “blinding” the enemy’s air defense in that area until a replacement arrives. The Come Back Alive Foundation noted that Ukrainian defenders detected the Russian 96L6 radar and guided the kamikaze drone to it using a Shark reconnaissance drone.
This operation highlights the effectiveness of Ukrainian forces in targeting and destroying Russian air defense assets. By using kamikaze drones, they can effectively neutralize these systems and gain an advantage in the ongoing conflict. This successful strike is a testament to the skill and determination of the Ukrainian military in defending their country.
