**Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Wants EU to Stop Buying Russian Gas**
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, says the European Union should stop buying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia. He wants the EU to buy gas from the United States and other countries instead.
Sybiha made his statement on a social media platform called X. He said it is unacceptable for the EU to pay for Russian LNG when the country is committing crimes and aggression against Ukraine. He also noted that there are enough supplies of LNG available on the market.
The Financial Times reported recently that Russia sold a record amount of LNG to the EU in 2024, surpassing last year’s total. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister wants this trade to stop.
**US Gas Arrives in Greece**
Ukraine received its first shipment of US LNG on December 27. The gas arrived at a terminal in Greece and will be used to power Ukraine.
**EU Imposes Sanctions**
The EU has imposed sanctions on Russia’s gas industry, including a ban on the transshipment of Russian LNG. However, some EU countries like Germany still have contracts with Russia for the supply of gas.
**European Commission President Wants US Gas**
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, wants the EU to buy more gas from the United States. She made this suggestion in a phone call to the US President-elect Donald Trump after his election victory.
