**Ukraine Prepares Soldiers for Extreme Conditions**
The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has announced a new survival training program for its soldiers. This program is based on NATO expertise and will prepare them to work in extreme environments, from the Arctic to deserts.
**Implementing NATO Standards**
As of early 2024, Ukraine had implemented 324 out of 1,135 NATO standards. In the first half of the year alone, 23 new standards were introduced. These include training for operations in urban environments and airborne operations.
**New Training Program**
The training program will focus on survival skills, including search and rescue operations, evasion of capture, and resilience in captivity. Ukrainian soldiers will also learn how to prepare for evacuation and retrain in different environments, such as Arctic, tropical, mountainous, and desert regions.
**SERE Program**
The standard includes specialized training and instructor preparation under the SERE program (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape), which NATO uses to train military personnel. This will help Ukrainian soldiers survive in wilderness and hostile urban environments.
**Preparing for Future Challenges**
Deputy Defense Minister Dmytro Klymenkov said that the goal of the training is to equip soldiers with the necessary knowledge to endure challenging circumstances. This comes as Germany’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius warned about Russian hybrid warfare attacks and a potential Russian threat to NATO around 2030.
