**Ukrainian Group Blocks SpaceX’s Starlink Plan**
A US-based group, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), has opposed a plan by tech company SpaceX to launch 22,488 more satellites into space. The move is due to concerns over SpaceX CEO Elon Musk‘s ties with Russia and alleged use of his Starlink system by Russian forces in Ukraine.
The UCCA filed a petition with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on December 4, urging the agency to conduct further review before allowing SpaceX to launch more satellites. The group cited environmental considerations and conflict-of-interest issues arising from Musk’s involvement in the incoming Trump administration.
Musk has denied selling any Starlink units to Russia and said that Starlink would not connect to any devices there. However, Russian troops in Ukraine have been using Starlink terminals through shadowy supply chains and intermediaries, contributing to territorial losses for Ukraine.
This is not the first time Musk’s involvement with Russia has raised concerns. Democratic senators recently called for an investigation into his involvement in SpaceX programs due to reports that he held secret conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other officials.
