Ukrainian military intelligence intercepted Russian communications about the preparations for receiving North Korean units in Russia‘s Kursk Oblast.
The growing military presence of North Korea in Russia is a significant step in the internationalization the Russo-Ukrainian War. Newly intercepted communications reveal that Russia has been preparing for the deployment of additional North Korean units to the Kursk Oblast. This development, which has approximately 12,000 North Korean soldiers already in Russia violates multiple UN Security Council Resolutions and also indicates a growing military alliance between Moscow & Pyongyang. It could change the dynamics of the conflict.
According to Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence (MDIA), these conversations relate to soldiers of 810th Independent marine Brigade of 18th Army of Russia’s Southern Military District who are taking part in combat in the Kursk Oblast.
During these discussions, issues of organization were discussed in relation to the arrival North Korean servicemen, who are tentatively known as “Battalion K.”
