**Ukrainian Lawmaker Moves to Dismiss Energy Minister**
Members of the Verkhovna Rada Energy Committee have called for the dismissal of Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko. The move was announced by Ukrainian lawmaker Yaroslav Zhelezniak on January 10.
Zhelezniak listed several reasons for the motion, including corruption in the energy sector, failure to protect energy infrastructure, and lies and manipulations. He also criticized Halushchenko’s behavior during a parliamentary session earlier that day, calling it “unacceptable”.
One of the main issues at stake is the future completion of the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant‘s power units. A letter from the European Commission and the U.S. Embassy expressed concerns about this issue.
During the session, Halushchenko made dismissive remarks directed at the EU ambassador. When questioned by lawmakers, he said that his comments were not aimed at the ambassador, but rather referred to middle-level staff members of the European Commission’s representation in Ukraine.
Zhelezniak is calling on lawmakers to support a resolution to dismiss Halushchenko as Energy Minister. This would mark a significant change in leadership for Ukraine’s energy sector.
