Russian Forces Using Bakhmut Mines for Military Operations
Russia is using the mines in the occupied city of Bakhmut to store ammunition and equipment. This information was shared by Nazar Voloshyn, spokesperson for Ukraine’s “Khortytsia” military grouping.
Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine, was once home to 70,000 people. Now, only 3,500 residents remain. The city has been occupied by Russian forces since May 2023. Russia is using occupied cities like Bakhmut as temporary bases for their military operations.
The spokesperson said that the city’s mines are being used as a logistical hub. This means that Russian forces are storing ammunition and equipment in these underground areas. They are also setting up field hospitals to treat wounded soldiers.
This practice is part of Russia’s strategy to use civilian infrastructure for military purposes. By occupying cities, they can prepare for further offensives. The exact number of Russian casualties during the battle for Bakhmut is not known, but it is believed that over 60,000 soldiers were killed or wounded.
