**Russian Forces Still Targeting Kharkiv**
The situation in Ukraine remains tense. Russian forces are trying to take back areas they lost recently.
Volodymyr Dehtiarov, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian National Guard’s “Khartia” Brigade, said that Russia still plans to get close enough to attack Kharkiv with artillery. This was their goal in May when they launched a new offensive.
**Recent Developments**
As of early December 2024, there are ongoing battles between Ukrainian and Russian forces in the Kharkiv region. Ukrainian troops have recently regained some positions north of Kharkiv city, but Russian advances continue in other areas.
Russian missile strikes have been targeting urban areas, including a major attack on November 25 that damaged over 195 residential buildings and injured at least 23 civilians.
**Russia’s Objectives**
According to Dehtiarov, Russia’s goal remains the same as it was in May. They want to get close enough to hit Kharkiv with artillery from the village of Borshchova. Ukrainian forces have been able to stop them so far.
**Ukrainian Military Response**
The Ukrainian military has reported that Russian forces are using artillery and guided bombs against Kharkiv city and surrounding areas. While there have been no major tank assaults, the situation remains tense.
On December 1, Ukrainian soldiers repelled a Russian assault in the Kharkiv region, destroying three infantry fighting vehicles and neutralizing 45 Russian troops.
