“As Russian forces destroy the mining town of Toretsk their offensive threatens an expansion towards Pokrovsk Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. Officials in Ukraine report that Russian losses are massive.
According to UkrInform, Russian troops have destroyed every building and shelter within Toretsk, Donetsk Oblast. This allows the invaders the opportunity to occupy new parts of the city.
Ivan Tymochko of the Council of Reservists of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told RBC-Ukraine that the Russians would be able to advance towards Pokrovsk, or in the Avdiivka directions, towards Kramatorsk, and Sloviansk. They would also be able to reinforce troops in the Chasiv Yar region.
He said that the offensive was vital for the Russians because Niu York and Toretsk were mining towns with well developed industries where coal was extracted.
“Now, the city looks more like a deserted world: there are no shelters available for civilians or military personnel, and this allows the enemy the opportunity to occupy new areas in scorched land,” said she.
Bobovnikova claims that the occupants disguise themselves in civilian clothing to reach Ukrainian positions. This tactic was also used in the Chasiv-Yar area.
The spokesperson also added that the Russians have suffered massive losses in Toretsk.
“However, the leadership in the Russian army promises its soldiers the world. They are increasing the death compensation payouts. “Russian soldiers are gullible and willingly sign contracts to die on Ukrainian soil,” Bobovnikova said.
The Russian offensive against Toretsk that began in June threatens to open up new advance routes towards key Ukrainian strengthholds in Donetsk Oblast such as Pokrovsk Kramatorsk and Sloviansk. Toretsk, which could fall after Ukraine’s earlier withdrawal of Vuhledar would be another significant setback for the region.
