Lyudmila denisova, Ukrainian Ombudsman, responded to the fact Mikheil Sakaashvili was moved from Gori Hospital into Rustavi’s 12th Penitentiary Institution.
“We are outraged at the transfer of Mikheil Sakaashvili from the Gori Military Hospital, the Chairman of the Executive Committee for the National Council for Reforms, under the President Ukraine, to the Rustavi prison facility. The cynicism displayed is astounding. Mikheil was taken away overnight without warning his lawyers. His condition is critical, and he has a serious concern. After three hypertensive crisis he feels very bad. He was unable get out of bed just a few days ago. He was not assigned to a new doctor and the decision about the treatment strategy was approved from doctors with different profiles,” Denisova wrote.
Denisova stated that sending Saakashvili into prison in a state of such difficulty is a serious breach of international standards.
“I appeal to Nino Lomjaria, Public Defender of Georgia to visit Mikheil Sakaashvili at the penitentiary to check on the protection of his freedoms and rights.
“I request that the Ambassador of Ukraine in Georgia provide consular assistance for Mikheil Saakashvili.” I call on foreign countries and international organizations, to condemn the actions taken by Georgian officials, who violated the rights of Mikheil Sakaashvili, a Ukrainian citizen, and demand that Georgian authorities restore Mikheil’s rights,” Denisova posted on Facebook.
