Denys Shmyhal, Minister of Interior, outlines Ukraine’s priority ahead of winter 2024-2025, focusing on the restoration of energy, water supply to southern regions, and the protection of key infrastructure.
According to Ukrinform, Prime Minister Denys Schmyhal said that Ukraine faces urgent challenges ahead of winter. These include providing drinking water in its southern regions, ensuring heating and energy supplies, and building defenses for critical infrastructure.
Experts and politicians predict the winter of 2024-2025 to be the most difficult during the war. This is because Russian missile strikes have destroyed a large part of Ukraine’s power system.
“The government’s priorities for recovery remain unchanged: demining and humanitarian assistance, energy, housing reconstruction, and the support of the private sector. We are approaching a harsh winter and have many urgent tasks and needs: providing drinking-water to the southern Ukrainian population, restoring housing and heating supplies, and building levels two and three protection for critical infrastructure.
Shmyhal outlined two key directions for resource mobilization: external budget support of 38,4 billion dollars for 2025 and 50 billion dollars from the Russian assets frozen in the West.
Shmyhal said that it was important for these funds to reach the end of this calendar year.
Ukraine continues to implement reforms, and fulfill its obligations. The official stressed that it is important that they are aligned to the country’s European Integration, macroeconomic stability and economic development goals.
His claims were made during the 11th Meeting of the Ukraine Donor Coordination Platform. The Ukrainian Prime Minister expressed his gratitude at the end to all countries and organizations that were involved in the work. This initiative currently includes 23 countries, and seven international financial institutions.
