**Ukrainian Railways Hit by Large-Scale Cyber Attack**
The Ukrainian railway system was targeted in a large and sophisticated cyber attack. The company, Ukrzaliznytsia, announced the attack on March 24.
The attack affected Ukrzaliznytsia’s online systems. The company’s website and app became unavailable due to a “technical failure” on March 23. However, this was later revealed to be a result of the cyberattack.
Cyberattacks have been used by both Russia and Ukraine during the ongoing war. Many Ukrainian companies and state agencies have been targeted in recent years. Despite the attack, train traffic continued as usual. Ukrzaliznytsia had backup systems in place due to previous attacks.
The company described the attack as “systemic and multi-level” and said it was carried out by “the enemy”. Specialists from Ukrzaliznytsia are working with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) to restore data from backup systems.
As a result of the attack, online ticket purchases are currently unavailable. The company will be working offline on March 24.
