**Ukraine Destroys Russian Helicopter with Naval Drone**
On December 31, 2024, Ukraine’s military made history by destroying a Russian helicopter using a naval drone. This is the first time an aerial target has been destroyed by a maritime drone.
The Ukrainian intelligence agency reported that their special operations unit “Group 13” used a Magura V5 drone to attack the Russian Mi-8 helicopter. The operation took place near Cape Tarkhankut in Crimea, which is currently occupied by Russia.
According to reports, the Russian helicopter attempted to shoot at the drones with its firearms before being hit by a missile launched from the Ukrainian naval drone. The helicopter crashed into the sea. A second Russian helicopter was also damaged but managed to return to base.
This historic achievement marks a significant milestone in Ukraine’s use of drones in military operations.
