**Ukrainian Women Share Their Fears and Hopes**
Three Ukrainian women with connections to the Channel Islands have spoken out about their hopes for peace in Ukraine. They also shared their fears about the ongoing war with Russia.
**Refugees in Jersey and Guernsey**
In Jersey, 14 Ukrainian refugees have been welcomed since April 2022. In Guernsey, 24 Ukrainians have found a home as of March this year. The women’s experiences are a reminder of the impact of the conflict on ordinary people.
**Clash at the White House**
Last Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had a tense meeting with Donald Trump and JD Vance in the White House. After the meeting, he was asked to leave the building. He then traveled to London, where European leaders showed their support for Ukraine.
**Hopes and Fears**
One of the women, Natalia Baker, lives in Jersey but still has family in Ukraine. She said that many people are losing loved ones every day. “We need a ceasefire and peace agreement,” she urged. Another woman, Valeriya Sarnovska, returns to her home city of Kyiv after living in Guernsey for a few years. She is worried about the impact on families if Ukraine loses international support.
**”We have cards”**
Olga Turkoglu, who moved to Guernsey in 2017, said that she and many others were holding out hope for a better future. Her voluntary work with Humanitarian Aid Guernsey gives her a sense of calm when she feels helpless. She believes that Ukraine’s people are its strongest asset.
