United Nations Officials Meet with Georgian Parliament Speaker
On March 27, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Georgia, Didier Trebucq, met with the Speaker of the Georgian Dream Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili. They discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the UN and Georgia to promote sustainable development and women’s rights.
The meeting was also attended by representatives from other UN organizations, including OHCHR, UNDP, UNFPA, and UN Women. The UN Office in Georgia said that discussions focused on how they can work together to support Georgia’s development and promote equality for all people.
After the meeting, Papuashvili wrote on social media that it was a “valuable conversation” with the UN officials. He mentioned that he discussed the priorities of the Georgian parliament and planned legislative work.
This meeting comes after the UN expressed concerns about the Georgian government in the past. In 2024, they criticized the reintroduction of a law that could be used to silence critics, and the abolition of gender quotas for elections.
