**322 Kids Killed in Gaza**
The United Nations agency for children, Unicef, has reported that at least 322 kids have died in Gaza since Israel‘s latest offensive. This is based on information from the Hamas-run health ministry.
**Many Injured Too**
Unicef also said that at least 609 other children were hurt during this time period. The agency believes that many of these children are still displaced and living in makeshift camps or damaged homes.
**Violence Continues**
Unicef’s Executive Director, Catherine Russell, said that the ceasefire in Gaza gave kids some hope. But now they’re caught up in a cycle of violence and deprivation again.
**Why is this Happening?**
Israel launched its renewed offensive on March 18, saying Hamas rejected a new US proposal for extending the ceasefire. Hamas accused Israel of breaking their original agreement from January.
**Big Numbers**
Since the war started over 18 months ago, Unicef reports that 15,000 children were killed, 34,000 injured, and nearly a million kids were displaced. Without essential supplies, malnutrition and diseases are likely to rise, leading to more preventable child deaths.
