**University of Belgrade Rector Speaks Out**
The relationship between the Serbian state and the University of Belgrade is under strain. Professor Vladan Djokic, the university’s rector, says the government is exerting pressure in various areas.
Professor Djokic emphasized that the state should not see the university as an enemy or a threat. In an interview with RTS (Serbian state TV), he said the university has been targeted by the government since it showed support for students.
The professor highlighted that the Serbian Government‘s decision to cut professors’, lecturers’, and researchers‘ salaries to just 15 percent is unlawful. The university is taking legal action against this decision, saying it has not acted unlawfully.
Classes at the University of Belgrade have been disrupted due to blockades. Professor Djokic said the university believes these blockades are a result of the government’s pressure on faculties and staff.
