The Tbilisi City Court has scheduled the hearing of Nika Melia’s case, the leader of the opposition United National Movement Party.
The session will take place on April 8 at 11:00 AM.
Giorgi Kondakhishvili is Melia’s attorney. He says that the measure imposed by the court on the opposition leader to restrain him will be reviewed at the trial.
The lawyer said that “the government will announce its political decision” on Melia’s case on April 8.
He said: “On April 8 we will hear a political decision from the government. It will be announced during the trial, whether Nika Melia is to be kept in custody or released from illegal imprisonment.”
The Tbilisi City Court sentenced Nika Melia to prison in February. He is accused of organizing violence in groups during anti-government protests that took place in June 2019 (the so-called “Gavrilov Night”). UNM leader denies charges. He was arrested on 23 February.
