**US and Armenia Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement**
The United States and Armenia have signed a strategic partnership commission charter. This agreement was signed by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on January 14 in Washington, D.C.
This move comes as Armenia tries to strengthen its ties with the West amid deteriorating relations with Russia. The charter sets up a framework for expanded bilateral cooperation between the two countries in areas such as economic cooperation, security and defense, and democracy.
“This is increasingly strong partnership that benefits both our countries and the region,” Blinken said at the signing.
Mirzoyan also praised the agreement, saying it marks Armenia’s latest pro-Western foreign policy move. Relations between Russia and Armenia have deteriorated since Moscow failed to stop an Azerbaijani lightning offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023.
