The US Department of State’s 2022 Report on Human Right Practices states that “the government took steps to investigate certain officials for human right abuses, but impunity was still a problem.”
According to the report the government’s failure of credibly investigating and prosecuting the organizers of July 2021 violence ahead of the Pride March led to impunity for these abuses.
The document states that “lack of accountability continued also for the inappropriate use of force by police against journalists and protesters in June 2019 demonstrations, and the 2017 abduction of Azerbaijani activist and journalist Afgan Mukhtarli and his rendition from the country”,
