**US Launches Airstrikes Against Houthi Rebels in Yemen**
The US launched airstrikes against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen on March 15. President Donald Trump ordered “decisive” military action against the group.
Trump also warned Iran that the US would hold it “fully accountable” if it didn’t stop supporting the Houthi rebels immediately. The US attack comes as Russia continues to expand its partnership with Iran, which has provided thousands of drones used in attacks against Ukrainian cities.
**Tensions Rising**
The strikes on the Houthis come amid increasing tensions between their main backer, Iran, and Israel, which is supported by the US. There’s also controversy over Tehran’s nuclear weapons program.
Trump claimed that his predecessor Joe Biden’s approach was “pathetically weak” and that the US would deploy “overwhelming lethal force” against the rebels until they had achieved their objective.
**Casualties Reported**
At least 31 people were killed and 101 injured in Yemen by the US strikes, according to the Houthi-run health ministry. Most of the casualties were women and children.
