The United States will offer a reward up to $10 million to anyone who can provide information that prevents or disrupts foreign interference in elections linked to the Russian state-sponsored Rybar organization. This was announced by the U.S. State Department. The United States is continuing to crackdown on alleged Russian election interference. Rybar and its staff are accused of using social networks to meddle in the U.S. presidential elections. The U.S. announced sanctions on Sept. 4 during the presidential election campaign. They also seized 32 domains that were linked to Kremlin propagandists. Rybar employees manage social media channels that are synonymous with conservative movements within the United States. These include the #HOLDTHELINE social media channel and the #STANDWTHTEXAS. The State Department claims that Rybar is using its latest social media platform to “sow discord, promote social divide, stoke partisan, racial and religious discord, and incite hate and violence” in the United States. “Rybar, its employees, and 8 other individuals or entities are listed by the State Department as having rewards for their capture. Russia has been accused of using disinformation on social media, bot farms, etc. to support Donald Trump against his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, during the 2016 and 2020 election. U.S. Intelligence officials said that they “haven’t observed a change in Russia’s preferences” for the presidential election from previous elections.
