US Promises Continued Support for Ukraine at UN Meeting
The US has promised to continue supporting Ukraine, despite concerns about future military aid. This was announced by Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Thomas-Greenfield spoke at a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York. She said that additional military assistance for Ukraine would be announced soon. The Biden administration had already promised $7.1 billion in military aid from the Pentagon’s stockpiles before President-elect Trump takes office.
US officials are worried that Trump might cut support for Ukraine. They want to provide more military aid before his term ends. Thomas-Greenfield also called on other countries to support Ukraine’s Peace Formula, which aims for a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.
She strongly criticized Russia, saying it must be held accountable for its actions. Thomas-Greenfield also urged China to stop supporting Russia’s military efforts and cease fueling the war on the European continent.
Since the Russian invasion began in February 2022, the US has provided over $59 billion in security aid to Ukraine. President Biden had previously announced an additional $7.9 billion in security assistance for Ukraine in September.
